There are two basic ways to help. First, you can assist in the quest to identify all of the estimated 3,000 individuals in the U.S. with LCA. If you are aware of someone who has been diagnosed with LCA you can encourage him or her to participate in Project 3000, either through a physician or by directly contacting the Carver Laboratory at the University of Iowa.
The second way is by contributing to the Project 3000 Fund. The fund, managed by the University of Iowa Foundation and the Carver Nonprofit Genetic Testing Laboratory, was specifically created to facilitate genetic testing of individuals with LCA and research into inherited eye diseases that affect children.
